Dr Geoffrey Lane MBBS BSc (Med) FRACP

Geoffrey Lane graduated in Sydney and travelled to Perth after his internship. He completed his local post graduate training in Cardiology at Royal Perth Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. His overseas post graduate experience included two years at the Post Graduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London and four years in South Africa at the Groote Schuur Hospital, Capetown.

He returned to Western Australia in 1976 to establish the Department of Cardiology at Fremantle Hospital and has seen the unit grow into one of the major centres for cardiovascular training and research in the state.

Dr Lane is a partner in WA Cardiology. He offers cardiological consultation at Murdoch, Geraldton, Mandurah, Narrogin and Broome.

His main interests include the management of acute and chronic ischaemic heart disease and the management of cardiac failure. He has a particular interest and involvement in the co-ordination of international cardiovascular trials at Fremantle Hospital and St John of God Hospital Murdoch.

He is on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Heart Foundation (Western Australia), Medical Advisory Committee (St John of God Hospital Murdoch) and is a patron of the Fremantle Heart Patients Support Group.

   
Dr Keith Woollard MBBS MD MRCP (UK) FRACP

Keith was an intern at Royal Perth Hospital and then did a short period as a GP in Port Hedland. He trained in cardiology in London and worked in the Middle East before returning to Royal Perth Hospital. He is now a Cardiologist at Fremantle Hospital and also has appointments at St John of God Hospital Murdoch, the Mount Hospital, Hollywood Hospital, Armadale Hospital, Peel Health Campus and Broome.

His MD was based on evaluating electromechanical behaviours in normal and ischaemic myocardium. His later work was on use of hyperbaric oxygen to identify hibernating myocardium. He is currently involved in studies of coronary calcification in assessing the relevance of certain lipid fractions and complex myocardial markers to the development of coronary disease.

He is now the patron of the AMA Foundation which runs the Doctor Yes campaign, Chairman of the Australian Council on Smoking and Health and remains an active campaigner on environmental issues.

   
Dr John O'Shea MBBS MRCP (UK) FRACP

John O'Shea graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1978. His internship and basic physician training were performed at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children between 1979 and 1980. Dr O'Shea then moved overseas where he obtained postgraduate experience at the King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban, South Africa and the Royal Post Graduate Medical School in London. In 1983, he returned to the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre in Perth to study Cardiology.

Dr O'Shea's postgraduate experience was obtained at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. He returned to Australia in 1989 to take up the position of Consultant Cardiologist with the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Fremantle Hospital in Western Australia. Dr O'Shea was Head of Department of Cardiovascular Medicine from 1994 to 1996. His main interest is in transoesophageal echocardiograms and pacemaker implants.

Dr O'Shea is a partner of WA Cardiology. He offers cardiology consultation at Murdoch, Geraldton, Bunbury, Mount Lawley, Glengarry, Rockingham, Mandurah, Fremantle and Broome. He is chairman of the West Australian branch of Cardiac Society of Australian New Zealand, a patron of the Fremantle Heart Patients Support Group and a board member for the National Heart Foundation.
